SSPC are working with the Irish sites of US companies Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Janssen, BMS and MSD to address the efficient use of protein A resin.

The project addresses challenges that are shared across the biopharmaceutical manufacturing sector. These include the rising need for early diagnosis of chronic diseases, the growing demand for drugs in the development of vaccines and therapeutics (specifically proteins called antibodies), and an increase in R&D investments in pharmaceutical companies.

This research could massively support SSPC’s industry partners and their endeavours to bring down their costs and the cost of medicines.

SSPC is also the largest producer of PhD graduates for the (bio)pharma sector in Ireland and one of the top ranked producers globally. SSPC has attracted and trained researchers from 42 different countries, with 53 percent of alumni representing a foreign nationality.
